Bio

Allison grew up in Northern Maryland, where her homeschooling family cultivated a spirit of inquiry and nerdiness from a young age.  She received her B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, earning a Writing minor and Honors certificate along the way. This included an internship at NIST, where she was first introduced to the field of organic electronics. Since four years had not sated her chemistry curiosity she decided to pursue a PhD in Polymers/Materials and ended up in North Carolina.

When not doing science (with a mad glint in her eye), she enjoys soccer, science education outreach, thinking about the nature of existence and hanging out with her dog Obi Wan.

Research Interests

Allison's researched is focused on the design and fabrication of organic solar cells. Her projects utilize ternary blend solar cells: where an additional component is added to the typical two-component bulkheterojunction system to improve morphology, light absorption,  or carrier dynamics.
