Bio

David grew up in Western Kentucky, where a fantastic high school chemistry  teacher fostered his interest in chemistry. He went on to earn a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Kentucky in 2013. From his undergraduate research experience working on small-molecule organic solar cells in Dr. John Anthony's lab, he developed a passion for renewable energy research projects. Intent on furthering his knowledge of chemistry, David came to UNC-Chapel Hill to pursue his Ph.D in Polymer/Materials, working under Dr. Wei You. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis, computers, SCUBA diving, and following the University of Kentucky basketball team.

Research Interests

David's research interests include designing and synthesizing organic photovoltaic and electronic materials for application in new materials and renewable energy projects. He hopes to create higher efficiency organic solar cell materials by incorporating novel organic compounds and light absorption techniques, such as singlet fission, into the solar cell.
